Storm Lake Police arrested two Illinois men early Thursday after a traffic stop led to the discovery of multiple THC products and paraphernalia.
Around 12:15 a.m., an officer stopped a vehicle in the 600 block of Highway 110 near Frank Starr Park. Police say they detected the odor of marijuana while speaking with the occupants, who were identified as 51-year-old Jason Hoger of Sugar Grove, Illinois, and 32-year-old Juan Barrera Lopez of Lombard, Illinois.
A search of the vehicle allegedly turned up about 80 grams of marijuana flower, 110 grams of THC‑infused gummies, five THC vaping devices and various items of drug paraphernalia.
Both men were taken into custody without incident and transported to the Buena Vista County Jail. Hoger and Barrera Lopez were each charged with:
- Failure to affix a drug tax stamp — Class D felony
- Possession of marijuana — serious misdemeanor
- Possession of a hemp inhalation device — serious misdemeanor
- Possession of drug paraphernalia — simple misdemeanor
Both were booked into the Buena Vista County Jail and held on $7,300 bond.
