A teenager from Rockwell City has died following a crash Wednesday morning in Calhoun County.
The Iowa State Patrol says the collision happened around 7 a.m. northeast of Lytton, at the intersection of Highway 20 and Fletcher Avenue.
According to the crash report, a pickup heading north on Fletcher failed to stop at the intersection’s stop sign and collided with an eastbound semi on Highway 20. Dense fog was reported at the time.
The pickup’s driver, identified as 15-year-old Cadyn Oscar Ogden, was pronounced dead from injuries sustained in the crash. The semi driver, 71-year-old Richard Lawrence Kanne of Lake View, was also injured, though details were not released.
Ogden was a sophomore at South Central Calhoun High School. In a letter to families, the district expressed condolences and said support staff, counselors, and clergy would be available at the school to help students and families cope with the loss. Students were also given the option to contact home using personal devices.
Out of respect for Ogden’s family, Wednesday’s Homecoming coronation and skits were postponed. Families seeking additional support can contact the high school at (712) 464-7211 or district office at (712) 297-7341 during school hours.
