Gov. Kim Reynolds has issued a disaster proclamation for five Iowa counties following recent severe weather.
The proclamation covers Cherokee, Clay, Kossuth, Montgomery and Ringgold counties, allowing state resources to be used for response and recovery efforts. It also activates two assistance programs: the Iowa Individual Assistance Grant Program and the Disaster Case Advocacy Program.
Under the Individual Assistance Grant Program, eligible households — those earning up to 200 percent of the federal poverty level — can receive up to $7,000 for home or car repairs, replacement of personal property or food and temporary housing. Original receipts are required for reimbursement.
The Disaster Case Advocacy Program is available to anyone affected, regardless of income. Advocates help residents develop a recovery plan and connect them with services and resources. That program remains open for 180 days from the date of the proclamation, which was issued on Friday.
Residents in the affected counties can find the Disaster Assistance Request Form and additional information on the Iowa Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management website at homelandsecurity.iowa.gov. Preparedness resources are also available at ready.iowa.gov.
