Pocahontas County deputies arrested an Omaha man Sunday morning after a traffic stop led to the discovery of illegal drugs.
The sheriff’s office says a deputy stopped a vehicle around 11 a.m. at Highway 4 and Airport Road in Pocahontas for speeding and following too closely. During the stop, deputies allege they located marijuana and drug paraphernalia inside the vehicle.
The driver was identified as 19‑year‑old Alexander Joseph Thurmond. A 17‑year‑old female passenger was also taken into custody.
Both were charged with possession of marijuana, a serious misdemeanor, and possession of drug paraphernalia, a simple misdemeanor.
Thurmond was booked into the Pocahontas County Jail. The juvenile was released to a responsible adult.
