Latest on Winter Storm Watch/Wind Chill Warning Issued for Area Counties

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Watch for Buena Vista, Cherokee, Clay, and Ida counties from noon on Wednesday until 6pm Friday.

A Winter Storm Watch is posted for other area counties including Calhoun, Pocahontas, and Sac counties from 6pm Wednesday until 6am Saturday.

Blizzard conditions are possible, with total snow accumulations of between three and seven inches possible, and winds possibly gusting up to 50 miles per hour. The Storm Lake weather forecast is currently calling for a total of five inches of snow on Wednesday.

The National Weather Service says citizens should plan on slippery road conditions. Widespread blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. Dangerously cold temperatures could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as ten minutes. Those with holiday travel plans will want to monitor the forecast closely and adjust plans as necessary.

A Wind Chill Warning is in effect for Buena Vista and several other area counties from 6am Thursday to noon on Saturday. High temperatures Thursday through Saturday are expected to be sub-zero. Overnight lows Wednesday night through Saturday night are expected to be in the negative teens.
