Ida Grove Day-Care Provider Charged After Infant Injured

An Ida Grove woman who operated an in-home day care is facing felony charges after an infant in her care was hospitalized with serious injuries.

According to the Ida County Sheriff’s Office, 41-year-old Megan Louise Montgomery was arrested last Tuesday, Oct. 21, following a weeks-long investigation into a September incident at her home day care.

Court documents show that on Sept. 11, first responders were called to Montgomery’s residence for an unresponsive 11-month-old child. The infant was later airlifted to a children’s hospital in Nebraska, where doctors determined the child had suffered what they described as “non-accidental trauma.”

Authorities say Montgomery was the only adult supervising at least 14 young children that day.

Around 11:30 that morning, she allegedly “aggressively” picked up the infant and carried them to another room. About five minutes later, she reportedly noticed the child was unresponsive. Seven minutes after that, she called 911.

Medical professionals confirmed the injuries occurred while the child was in Montgomery’s care.

Montgomery is charged with two Class C felonies: willful injury and child endangerment causing serious injury. Each charge carries a maximum sentence of up to 10 years in prison if convicted.

She was booked into the Ida County Jail and released after posting a $10,000 bond.

As of this morning, no future court dates have been scheduled.
