Chicago Man Sentenced in BV District Court for Trafficking Stolen Weapon and Drug Possession

A Chicago, Illinois man was sentenced this week in Buena Vista County District Court on multiple charges in connection with a traffic stop in Storm Lake last year.

Last December, 19-year-old David Washington pleaded guilty to Trafficking in Stolen Weapons, a class D felony…and 1st Offense Possession of Psilocybin Mushrooms, a serious misdemeanor. Washington was given a suspended prison term. He was placed on probation for three years with the Iowa Department of Corrections for the Trafficking Stolen Weapons charge, and was sentenced to seven days in the Buena Vista County Jail for psilocybin possession.

Washington was arrested after Storm Lake Police conducted a traffic stop on July 1st of last year on a vehicle in the area of Seneca Street and East Milwaukee Avenue. Police discovered open containers of alcohol in the vehicle along with marijuana, prescription pills, psilocybin mushrooms, and a loaded firearm. The firearm had been stolen in a burglary in the town of Stratford in September of 2022.
