BV Supervisors Talk Funding for Colorize Purchase as Offer Accepted

The Buena Vista County Board of Supervisors this (Tues) morning began the discussion of funding options for the purchase of the Colorize building.

Colorize has verbally accepted a 340-thousand dollar offer from the county to purchase the building at 317 East 5th Street in Storm Lake. Discussions centered on possibly using county general fund money toward the purchase, and reimbursement resolutions. Talks are expected to continue in the coming days to finalize the agreement.

In early August, Auditor Sue Lloyd recommended that the county purchase the building for the Auditor/Election departments to move into. Lloyd said the move would free up space at the county jail where election equipment is held, and make it easier for voting machines to be transported to precincts during elections.

340-thousand dollars was the initial asking price from Colorize. The Supervisors previously submitted an offer of 290-thousand dollars for the building. After that offer was rejected a month ago, the Supervisors opted against making the purchase at that time, but kept the possibility open while they continued to look at other options.
