Woman Sentenced to Prison in Connection to Death of Care Facility Resident in Fonda

A woman who was working as a nurse at the care facility in Fonda has received a prison sentence after being charged with neglect in the death of a patient.

According to court documents, 70-year-old Becky Manning of Lake View was charged with Wanton Neglect of a Resident of a Care Facility. The charge was filed in March of last year after a man died at Fonda Specialty Care. Manning was sentenced earlier this week to two years in prison, along with an 855 dollar fine and other court costs. She previously entered an Alford plea.

Documents state that Manning refused to suction a resident’s airway over the course of her eight-hour shift that started on February 18th, 2023. The resident later died sitting in his chair the following day.

Fonda Specialty Care was reportedly fined 65 hundred dollars for the incident.
