Witter Gallery Launches Chili Cook-Off Fundraiser Featuring Local Chefs, Entertainment

Nine local chefs will bring the heat this Saturday at Witter Gallery’s SOUPer CHILIn’ BOWLicious Cook-Off, held at the Storm Lake Municipal Golf Course Clubhouse. The event kicks off at 5 p.m. with chili tasting beginning at 5:30 p.m.

The event marks a new chapter in Witter Gallery’s creative fundraising efforts, says board member Jerry Johnson.

Each $50 ticket includes a handcrafted chili bowl made by local artists, including Ron Netten as well as David Boelter and his Buena Vista University art students, plus a taste of Iowa’s favorite comfort combo: chili and cinnamon rolls, courtesy of Storm Lake Bakery.

The nine competing chefs were selected by open application and include familiar names like Lisa Funk of Storm Lake Bakery, Hunter O’Bannon of Benchmark Woodworks, Curt Ellison of Lake Avenue Lounge and BozWellz, and Valerie Tetzlaff of Cornbred & Honey. They’ll join Robert Blodgett, Jacquie Drey, Nicole Reinert, David Walker, and Stephanie Alanis in vying for the coveted People’s Choice Golden Bowl Award and a share of $500 in cash prizes.

Beyond the bowls, guests can enjoy live music from Mick Polich and Mary Beth Andrews, a live painting by Elyse Ganbino, and a silent auction featuring art, culinary creations, and themed experiences.

Proceeds from the event support Witter Gallery’s year-round programming.

Tickets are available at Witter Gallery or by calling 732-3400.
