Two Injured in Motorcycle vs Deer Collision

Two people were injured when a motorcycle struck a deer near Sioux Rapids over the weekend.

According to the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, the accident happened around 12:20am on Sunday in the 2000 mile of U.S. Highway 10. An investigation determined that 58-year-old Michael Cowell of Cornell was driving the motorcycle eastbound on the highway when a deer entered the roadway. The motorcycle collided with the deer, which led to both Cowell and a female passenger getting knocked off the vehicle.

Cowell and the passenger were transported by ambulance services to the Spencer Hospital for various injuries sustained during the accident. They both sustained head injuries, along with various non incapacitating injuries. The motorcycle is considered a total loss.

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office was assisted on scene by Sioux Rapids Fire/Rescue, Peterson Fire/Rescue, and the Spencer Ambulance Service.
