A Dallas, Texas man was sentenced earlier this week in Buena Vista County District Court on a theft charge.
Two months ago, 66-year-old Tommie Cox pleaded guilty to Third Degree Theft, an aggravated misdemeanor. He was sentenced to 21 days in the Buena Vista County Jail.
According to a criminal complaint, on the afternoon of August 26th of last year, Cox took a purse that he found in the Storm Lake Walmart parking lot cart corral. Cox took the purse back to his vehicle and drove approximately 12 miles before he was stopped by law enforcement. A traffic stop took place after the phone in the purse was pinged by the phone’s service carrier. The purse contained an ID card. All of the items in the purse valued at over 11 hundred dollars were located inside Cox’s vehicle.
