Study Details Iowa’s Healthiest Counties ; BV in Upper Half

A northwest Iowa county ranks as the healthiest county in the state, according to a new report.

The County Health Rankings and Roadmaps report shows Sioux County to be the healthiest one in the state. It rates counties’ health outcomes nationwide based on a range of factors.

Michael Stevenson, with the University of Wisconsin’s Population Health Institute, which produces the report, says Iowa’s top-ranked counties all have the same things in common…(audio clip below :13 )

Buena Vista ranks as the 43rd healthiest county out of 99 in Iowa.

Clay County is #27…Sac is #37…Cherokee #57…Pocahontas #63…Ida #71…and Calhoun County ranks 75th on state’s healthiest counties list.

Stevenson says Iowa’s overall voter turnout is higher than the national average, but there’s a lot of variation in rates at the county level…(audio clip below :14 )

After Sioux County, the report lists Winneshiek as the 2nd healthiest county, followed by Dallas, Mitchell and Hancock. The bottom five are Pottawattamie, Lee, Clarke, Appanoose, and Montgomery County is listed as the least healthy county in Iowa.
