The City of Storm Lake is moving forward with the launch of its new Mayor’s Civic Leadership Advisory Committee, with an initial introductory meeting for prospective members scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 25. The session begins at 5:15 p.m. at the Sunrise Pointe Golf Course clubhouse.
The meeting will serve as an orientation for residents interested in serving on the committee, which was formally created last month when the Storm Lake City Council unanimously approved a resolution establishing the group. Mayor Meg McKeon proposed the committee as a way to broaden community involvement and strengthen long‑term civic leadership in Storm Lake.
The committee will include nine members representing a range of community perspectives. Members will serve staggered three‑year terms, and one city staff member—appointed by City Manager Keri Navratil—will participate as an ex‑officio member. Once fully formed, the group is expected to meet at least quarterly.
According to the resolution passed in January, the committee’s purpose is to provide guidance and suggestions to the mayor on issues related to community needs, civic engagement, and future leadership development. The group will also play a role in long‑range visioning for the city, offering input on priorities and opportunities for Storm Lake’s growth over the next decade and beyond.
Mayor McKeon will chair the committee. She has emphasized that the goal is to create a space where residents who may be hesitant to run for office or speak at public meetings can still contribute ideas and help shape the city’s direction.
