Storm Lake School Board Approves Budget, MS Playground Bid, Baseball Field Turf Installation Dates, Facility Plan

After no comments were made at a public hearing, the Storm Lake School Board on Wednesday officially adopted the district’s 2023-2024 budget.

There are no changes in the budget from the initial presentation given to the board earlier this month. The district’s tax levy will stay the same at 17.17.

The Board approved the lone bid received for the Storm Lake Middle School playground project.

The bid from Reding Gravel and Excavating of Storm Lake is for nearly 274-thousand dollars.

The Board approved the installation dates contract for the high school baseball field turf replacement project.

The new baseball turf will be installed starting in July after the conclusion of the upcoming high school season, and will be completed in mid September. The Board previously approved a bid from Mid-America Golf and Landscape out of Missouri for the project work in the amount of 583-thousand dollars. The districtwill cover over half of that amount.

The Storm Lake School Board also approved the district’s five-year facility plan.

Chief Operating Officer Jeff Tollefson said the district is limited in their spending for this year with the baseball field turf project…(audio clip below)

Tollefson said they’re hoping to resurface another section of the high school parking lot this year, although it might have to be phased out into a multi-year project due to the increased cost of cement.
