Storm Lake Police Searching for Man Who Escaped From Custody

(UPDATE…The suspect has been located and is in custody)

The Storm Lake Police Department is asking for assistance in locating a man who escaped from custody last (Mon) evening.

The department was called to a residence early Monday evening in the 500 block of Hudson Street regarding a trespass incident. The suspect, 25-year-old Luis Rodriguez of Storm Lake, was taken into custody on multiple misdemeanor charges including 4th Degree Criminal Mischief, Interference With Official Acts, 5th Degree Theft, and 2nd Offense Trespass.

Police transported Rodriguez to the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center Emergency Room for a pre-incarceration screening. Rodriguez reportedly broke free from custody at approximately 9:15 Monday evening as an officer was escorting Rodriguez to a patrol vehicle. Rodriguez fled on foot to the area of the 15 hundred block of Shoreway Road, which is where he was last seen. Police searched the area throughout the evening, but were unable to locate him.

Rodriguez is a 25-year-old Hispanic male, five feet eight inches tall, and weighs 165 pounds. He was last seen wearing a Black hooded sweatshirt, gray sweatpants, no shoes and pink socks, and may still be restrained in handcuffs. An arrest warrant was obtained for Rodriguez for Escape From Custody, a serious misdemeanor.
