Storm Lake Man Accused of Sexual Contact With Minor Sentenced to Prison

A Storm Lake man who was charged last year with having sexual contact with a minor on multiple occasions was sentenced this week in Buena Vista County District Court to serve up to ten years in prison.

51-year-old Carlos Sican Alvarado previously entered an alford plea for two counts of Lascivious Acts With a Child, both class D felonies. He was sentenced to serve up to five years with the Iowa Department of Corrections on each count, and the sentences will run consecutively. He will also be under supervision for ten years after he’s released from prison.

On March 14th of last year, the Storm Lake Police Department was notified of the possible sexual assault, which occurred over a three-year period. Sican Alvarado was located at his residence two weeks later and was taken into custody. Sican Alvarado reportedly had sexual contact with a minor child under the age of 14 on four different occasions at four different locations in Storm Lake from January of 2019 into March of last year.
