The Storm Lake City Council took steps last Monday toward updating the city’s parking ordinance, holding a work session to review seven proposed changes aimed at improving safety, visibility, and enforcement across town.
Assistant City Manager David Derragon walked through each item, including seasonal restrictions on Northwestern Drive, daytime limits on Russell Street, and overnight rules for Memorial Road.
Visibility concerns prompted no-parking zones near Richland Drive and the corner of Northwestern and Highland. A ban on truck parking in the Awaysis lot near King’s Pointe Resort would also become enforceable, says Derragon.
Councilperson Meg McKeon says she and councilperson Maggie Martinez heard one proposal directly from residents during National Night Out, requesting restrictions on Larchwood Drive between Fifth Street and Colonial Circle.
Following discussion, the council unanimously passed a resolution setting a public hearing for 5 p.m. Monday, Oct. 20, in the council chambers.
Violations of the new rules, if adopted, would carry a $25 fine.
