Storm Lake Police arrested a Lakeside man early Sunday morning following a report of a suspicious vehicle in the 600 block of West 4th Street.
Officers responded around 2 a.m. and made contact with the driver, identified as 22-year-old Cristian Cervantes.
Authorities allege they detected the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle and, during a subsequent search, discovered a handgun reported stolen out of Lafayette, Iowa. Police further allege Cervantes has a prior conviction for domestic abuse assault in 2023, which prohibits him from possessing firearms.
Cervantes was taken into custody without incident and charged with possession or control of a firearm by a domestic abuse offender and trafficking stolen weapons—both Class D felonies.
He was booked into the Buena Vista County Jail on a $10,000 bond.
