The Northwest Iowa Senior Women’s Golf Tour opted not to play at Sunrise this year due to rates and fees. Porter requested that the trail fees at Sunrise be waived for the senior leagues, and possibly tournaments. She also asked that an additional fee not be added for senior golfers using the back room space in the clubhouse for meals. Porter also complained about the lack of food being offered at the clubhouse. King’s Pointe Resort manages the golf course, and general manager Amy Von Bank said green fees rates for groups depend on the number of people registered. Trail fees only apply to those that bring their own golf cart, and the cost is ten-dollars per cart, or five-dollars per person if two people ride in a cart.

This summer, a member of the men’s senior area golf tour asked that trail and back room fees be waived for members of the tour, which was denied by the council. Von Bank once again said that is comes down to being consistent…(audio clip below :38 )

Porter suggested that a short survey be sent out to Sunrise members on how to improve the course, as well as set up a focus group.

Mayor Mike Porsch agreed that a focus group should be set up in the near future. City Manager Keri Navratil said residents should start by contacting the City Clerk with comments or suggestions regarding the Sunrise Golf Course. Sunrise acts as the City’s municipal golf course.
