The Sioux Central FFA has received a two-thousand dollar grant for the school’s new greenhouse project.
The grant is provided through the Farm Credit Services of America’s Working Here Fund. The grant will be used to build a greenhouse with current technology such as automatic watering and climate control. The project will allow students to learn how to manage business, as well as a commercial greenhouse.
According to Sioux Central Ag Education Instructor Melanie Bloom, the greenhouse will allow students with a non-ag background to get a hands-on opportunity to learn about agriculture and crop production. She says it will also introduce students to careers such as nursery and landscape, floriculture, and agronomy and crop production.
The goal is to have the new Sioux Central greenhouse ready for operation within the next 12 months.
