Severe Weather Awareness Week Happening Later This Month

Severe Weather Awareness Week in Iowa will be March 24th through the 28th.

A press release by Buena Vista County Emergency Management states that BV County has been affected by all types of severe weather in recent years. Last year, historic flooding occurred in Sioux Rapids and Linn Grove, and a tornado damaged many homes in the rural area. It’s important for residents to understand and prepare for the hazards associated with severe summer weather.

Severe Weather Awareness Week provides an opportunity to highlight the importance of being aware of and prepared for severe weather with a different focus each day. Monday, March 24th will focus on lightning safety…the focus on Tuesday of that week will be tornado safety…Wednesday preparedness…Thursday hail and wind safety…and flood safety will be highlighted on Friday, March 28th.

The annual statewide tornado drill is scheduled for Wednesday, March 26th at 10am. At that time, all sirens in Buena Vista County will be activated. This is a good time to practice your tornado sheltering plans.
