Sac County Jail Inmate Now Faces Life Sentence in Trafficking Case

A Belmond woman originally charged in Sac County for arranging child prostitution now faces a far more serious accusation in central Iowa.

Forty-one-year-old Amanda Jean Goff has been charged in Dallas County with first-degree human trafficking—a Class A felony that carries a mandatory life sentence if convicted. Investigators allege Goff transported a 14-year-old girl to a Perry motel in January for the purpose of commercial sexual activity.

Goff was arrested Tuesday at the Sac County Jail, where she had been held since May on multiple charges including kidnapping and lascivious acts with a child. Those Sac County charges were dismissed last week.

Sac County Attorney Ben Smith says his office filed early charges to prevent Goff from fleeing the country, citing credible intelligence that she was preparing to escape to Mexico. Smith says the move bought time for Dallas County to build a stronger case, which involves the same alleged victims and more direct evidence of trafficking.

Smith also credited Sac City Police Detective Michelle Balo for uncovering the alleged trafficking network and initiating the broader investigation now led by the FBI and Iowa DCI.

Two other suspects—Jose Ayala Sanchez and Nelson Sanchez—remain at large. Anyone with information on their whereabouts is urged to contact the Sac County Communications Center at 712-662-7127.

Goff is now being held in the Dallas County Jail on $750,000 bond. Her preliminary hearing is scheduled for Monday, Nov. 10.
