Predawn Patrol Leads to Sexual Abuse Arrest in Storm Lake

The Storm Lake Police Department arrested a local man following a predawn investigation into an alleged sexual assault involving a minor.

Police say that around 4 a.m. on Monday, an officer on patrol noticed an occupied vehicle parked in the 700 block of West 10th St. When the officer approached, they made contact with 19‑year‑old Juan‑Christobal Valdez of Storm Lake and a 14‑year‑old female inside the vehicle.

According to police, the officer observed Valdez engaged in a sexual act with the minor. Further investigation alleges that Valdez also engaged in sexual activity with the same juvenile the night before at the same location.

Valdez was taken into custody at the scene and charged with two counts of third‑degree sexual abuse, both Class C felonies. He was transported to the Buena Vista County Jail, where he was booked and held on a $20,000 bond.

The case remains under investigation.
