Ownership Transfer of Storm Lake Marina Could be Completed Soon; Three Possible Options for Use of Property Presented

A meeting to update the public on the status of the Storm Lake Marina was held Thursday night at Lake Avenue Lounge.

Discussions have been ongoing to allow the marina to be transferred from the state to county ownership. A subcommittee was formed last year to provide facts on the matter to the Buena Vista County Conservation Board. The subcommittee consists of members of BV Conservation, BV Supervisors, and interested county residents.

Subcommittee spokesperson Jennifer Felton said a draft agreement has been presented to the county from the Iowa Department of Natural Resources…

Felton said BV County could officially gain possession of the marina this spring for open water season.

Felton read a quote from BV Supervisor and committee member Paul Merten, who was unable to attend the meeting last (Thur) night. According to Merten, BV County and the DNR are meeting today (Fri) to iron out the agreement…

The subcommittee is offering three options for the property which include a full marina with boat slips, boat sales and service, a bait shop, restaurant, and restrooms…a nature center and county conservation shop…or a restaurant/bar along with a county conservation shop. The full marina and restaurant/bar options would each require a 3rd party vendor. The final decision will be made by the BV Conservation Board.

Online forms have been created for those interested in applying to become a 3rd party vendor. The forms can be found on the BV County website, BV Conservation website, Storm Lake United, among other locations. The application deadline is February 23rd.

Questions pertaining to the marina can be sent to BVCountyMarina@gmail.com.
