Nurse Charged in Connection With Death of Resident Last Year at Care Facility in Fonda

An area nurse has been charged after a care facility resident died under her watch over a year ago.

According to court documents, 69-year-old Becky Manning of Lake View is charged with Wanton Neglect of a Resident of a Health Care Facility. Manning was a licensed practice nurse with Grape Tree Medical Staffing. She was contracted to provide nursing services at the Fonda Specialty Care facility.

Manning allegedly refused to provide care to one of the residents at the facility. The resident reportedly had a condition that required frequent suctioning to maintain an open airway. Manning allegedly began her shift on February 18th of last year and refused to suction the resident’s airway over an eight-hour span. The resident died sitting in his chair the following day. Investigators claim that Manning was aware of the resident’s care needs. She was the only nurse on duty at the time.

Manning was arrested earlier this month. She posted bond after being booked into the Pocahontas County Jail. Fonda Specialty Care was fined 65 hundred dollars.
