More details have been released regarding a train vs car collision in the Lake Creek area this (Tues) afternoon.
According to Buena Vista County Sheriff Kory Elston, the accident happened at approximately 3:29pm today at the Highway 7 and 70th Avenue intersection. An investigation determined that a 2011 white Dodge Caliber driven by Marie Eckerman of Newell was northbound on 70th Avenue approaching the railroad crossing. The car failed to yield at the railroad crossing and was struck by a westbound train operated by CN Railroad.
Eckerman sustained non-life threatening injuries, and was transported to the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center for treatment. Damage to Eckerman’s vehicle is estimated and ten thousand dollars, with minor damage to the train.
The BV County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Storm Lake Police Department, Storm Lake and Alta Fire Departments, Buena Vista Regional Medical Center, Buena Vista County Secondary Roads, Canadian National Police Department, and Storm Lake Towing.
This is the second such incident at the Highway 7 and 70th Avenue railroad crossing this year. Back on January 30th, a train crashed into a semi-tractor-trailer.
