Laborshed Study to be Conducted in Storm Lake

A laborshed employment study is being conducted in Storm Lake.

The study will measure the availability and characteristics of Storm Lake area workers. Laborshed studies help economic development teams and existing or prospective employers understand the local labor market, make informed expansion and site selection decisions, and maintain/recruit a high-quality workforce. The study will geographically define which communities contribute to Storm Lake’s workforce, regardless of political boundaries.

Letters are sent to randomly selected households asking residents to take a confidential online survey. The questions will cover topics including employment status, current and desired wages, current and desired benefits, education level, and type of occupation.

Following the conclusion of online surveying, Iowa Workforce Development will conduct telephone surveying in the area through a third-party vendor. The same questions will be asked. No identifying information will be collected. All survey answers are confidential and will be reported together. The results of IWD laborshed studies can be viewed at workforce.iowa.gov/laborshed.

Questions can be directed to Sam Queen at samuel.queen@iwd.iowa.gov or 515-281-8179…or Lee Dutfield with the City of Storm Lake at 732-8000.

The local laborshed study is thanks to the combined efforts of the Iowa Lakes Corridor Development Corporation, City of Storm Lake, Iowa Workforce Development, and Iowa Economic Development Authority.
