A juvenile has been charged after authorities identified a potential threat that was sent to Pocahontas Area Community School District students via an instant messaging app.
According to the Pocahontas Police Department, the possible threat was identified Wednesday morning through a Snapchat post that was sent to other students in the school district. Following an investigation, a 12-year-old student was detained. The juvenile has been charged with 1st Degree Harassment, an aggravated misdemeanor, and has been referred to State Juvenile Court.
Authorities have determined that there is no threat to the school district or communities in Pocahontas County at this time. The Pocahontas Police Department was assisted in the investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Pocahontas County Sheriff’s Office, the Pocahontas County Attorneys Office, and the Pocahontas School District.
