Local Agencies Taking Back Unwanted Prescription Drugs This Saturday

National Prescription Drug Take Back Day is this Saturday, April 22nd, and local agencies are making drop-offs available in a few Buena Vista County communities.

Emily Murray of the Drug Enforcement Administration says it’s a good time to clear out those unused prescription drugs to make sure they don’t get misused…(audio clip below :21 )

Pills can be taken for disposal on Saturday from 11am to 1pm at the Walmart parking lot in Storm Lake…Sioux Rapids City Hall…and Newell City Hall. Batteries, inhalers, liquids, needles, or sharps will NOT be accepted.

Murray says the “take back” event lets you turn in the medication anonymously…(audio clip below :18 )

Vaping devices and cartridges WILL be accepted, but Murray asks that the batteries be removed before they are dropped off.

The Buena Vista County Sheriff’s Office, Storm Lake Police Department, Newell Police Department, and Sioux Rapids Police Department have all been working in cooperation with the DEA to make the local drop-off sites possible.
