Iowa’s First Crop Progress Report for This Growing Season Released

The first Iowa USDA Crop Progress Report for 2025 was released this (Mon) afternoon.

The report says minimal fieldwork was done last week, but some producers were able to plant oats, apply anhydrous, and dry fertilizer. Much of the state experienced cooler-than-normal temperatures and much-needed rain showers. There were 3.3 days suitable for fieldwork statewide. There were only 2.2 days suitable for fieldwork in northwest Iowa.

23 percent of oats are planted in northwest Iowa, compared to 20 percent statewide.

72 percent of topsoil in northwest Iowa has adequate moisture, with 26 percent short or very short, and two percent surplus.

52 percent of northwest Iowa subsoil has adequate moisture, with 47 percent short or very short, and one percent surplus.
