A public hearing on the City of Storm Lake’s proposed tax levy for the next fiscal year was held during a special session city council meeting on Monday.
Local resident Rick Wimer questioned what he called higher property taxes in Storm Lake compared to other states he’s lived. Wimer was provided information on where property taxes go. He also questioned if two similar houses in the same neighborhood are assessed at the same value if one if them is dilapidated, and mayor Mike Porsch said that can be answered by the county assessor’s office.
The city’s maximum tax levy is expected to increase from 13.16 to 15.17.
