The City of Storm Lake is making changes to a part of Storm Lake Proud Week that allows residents to drop off unwanted household items at a discounted rate.
Program Manager Kim Woltman said because of insurance reasons, city staff can no longer handle or touch these items, and citizens are going to have to do that themselves…
Woltman proposed selling tickets at City Hall with 50 tickets available for each day to dispose items, with the cost of one ticket at 15 dollars per load. Items can be brought to the recycling center Monday through Friday, May 5th through the 9th, from 8am to 4pm. Woltman said the 15-dollar price per load is much cheaper than if they were disposing items outside of the program. Accommodations will be made if there is a bad weather day.
Multiple council members asked if Saturday hours could be added for drop-off items, possibly from 8 a.m. to noon. City Manager Keri Navratil also mentioned the possibility of adding hours in the fall. Details will be released in the coming days.
Contact Storm Lake City Hall if you’re interested in a volunteer project during Storm Lake Proud Week. Woltman challenged every resident to help their neighbor during the week. Mayor Mike Porsch also brought up the possibility of neighborhood challenges.
