Iowa Drought Levels Mostly Holding Steady

There aren’t many changes in this week’s Iowa Drought Monitor.

Most drought levels remain at the same percentages as the week before, although there is a slight decline in the highest level of Exceptional Drought, which is showing up in Monona County. Buena Vista and surrounding counties continue to be plagued by Severe Drought, which is the third worst out of four levels behind Extreme and then Exceptional. Almost all of northwest Iowa is experiencing at least Moderate Drought.

The amount of Iowa that’s Abnormally Dry did decline by nine-percent to 63-percent. At the start of the calendar year, over 90-percent of the state was Abnormally Dry, and all drought levels have also gone down significantly since the beginning of the year.
