A Storm Lake man was arrested Saturday evening after a high‑speed rollover crash in Storm Lake.
The Storm Lake Police Department was called to the 100 block of Flindt Drive around 5 p.m. Aug. 22 for a single‑vehicle accident involving a 2021 GMC Sierra that witnesses say was traveling northbound at a high rate of speed before the driver lost control, left the roadway and rolled into Radio Park. The truck struck a curb before flipping, causing an estimated $20,000 in damage.
Witnesses told police the driver ran from the scene barefoot after discarding alcohol. A short time later, officers located a man matching the description in the 900 block of E. First Street. Police identified him as 35-year-old Tomas Olivo and alleged he initially refused commands before being taken into custody. Officers said Olivo showed signs of alcohol intoxication, and he was transported to the Buena Vista County Jail for further testing.
Following the investigation, Olivo was charged with third-offense operating while intoxicated, a Class D felony, along with failure to maintain control, reckless driving and interference with official acts, all simple misdemeanors. He was booked into the Buena Vista County Jail and held on a $5,000 bond.
