Former Storm Lake Resident Sentenced to Prison for Multiple OWI Convictions

A Sioux City man will spend up to five years in prison after he was sentenced this week in Buena Vista County District Court for multiple Operating While Intoxicated incidents.

46-year-old Gatwech Tut pleaded guilty in late November to OWI Third or Subsequent Offense, a class D felony. A charge of Driving While Barred was dismissed per plea agreement.

According to a criminal complaint, Tut’s third OWI arrest followed a traffic stop that was conducted outside of his apartment in the 14 hundred block of Seneca Street in Storm Lake on the morning of August 3rd, 2023. Tut’s wife was the registered owner of the vehicle. Both Tut and his wife had barred licenses. Tut allegedly had bloodshot watery eyes, and he stated he had been drinking alcohol that morning. A breathalyzer test administered on-scene revealed a blood-alcohol level of .288.
