Former Storm Lake Mayor Jon Kruse passed away on Monday at the age of 74 following a battle with cancer.
Kruse served multiple terms as mayor of Storm Lake after previously serving on the City Council for ten years. Kruse served a total of 18 years as Storm Lake’s mayor. Kruse retired in 2017 after 28 years of public service.
Kruse had a major impact on lake restoration and many other projects, and was instrumental in environmental causes as a leader in the Ducks Unlimited program. The Little Storm Lake preserve was dedicated to Jon and his wife Colleen in 2016 in recognition of their conservation efforts in the community.
The funeral service for Jon Kruse will be tomorrow (Sat) morning at 10:30am at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Storm Lake. Visitation will be this (Fri) evening from 6 to 8pm at the Fratzke and Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake.
