Storm Lake City Council member Meg McKeon is urging residents to seek facts directly from city officials amid a surge in public records requests and community rumors.
At Monday night’s city council meeting, McKeon addressed the growing volume of inquiries for financial documents, some of which require extensive research or are not the city’s property to make public, especially pertaining to operations or development plans for entities such as King’s Pointe Resort and Tyson Foods, both of which she says pay property taxes, despite rumors she’s heard indicating otherwise.
McKeon emphasized that some requested documents simply don’t exist or aren’t owned by the city, and warned against misinformation circulating in the community.
She encouraged residents to stay engaged through official channels and attend council meetings to help maintain a factual and open dialogue.
