Corn and soybean planting in Iowa is getting closer to the finish line, and a good amount of both have now emerged.
According to the state’s USDA Crop Progress Report, 97 percent of corn has been planted in the state. Corn emerged reached 87 percent, six days ahead of last year and one day ahead of the five-year average. 91 percent of northwest Iowa corn is emerged. 84 percent of Iowa corn is rated good to excellent, up one percent from last week.
96 percent of the expected soybean crop has been planted. Soybeans emerged reached 79 percent, ten days ahead of last year and four days ahead of normal. In northwest Iowa, 98 percent of soybeans are planted, with 84 percent emerged. 81 percent of Iowa soybeans are rated good to excellent, one percent higher than last week.
75 percent of topsoil and 62 percent of subsoil in northwest Iowa have adequate moisture.
Nearly 5.5 days were suitable for fieldwork statewide last week, while nearly five days were suitable in northwest Iowa.
