City of Storm Lake Puts Emergency Water Conservation in Effect After Wells Go Down

The City of Storm Lake has declared a Level 4 Water Emergency after two city water wells unexpectedly went out of service today (Mon).

The City is asking all of its users to conserve water until further notice to ensure there is enough water for everyone with a reserve in the towers for firefighting needs until parts arrive for repair. City Manager Keri Navratil is hopeful that one of the wells can be fixed on Tuesday (March 18th).

Under the emergency, Storm Lake water users shall eliminate all lawn and flower bed watering, filling outdoor swimming pools, car washing, water for cleaning driveways and sidewalks, and use of fountains. Automatic car washes will be asked to shut down or cut back on production.

Under the emergency, the City of Storm Lake shall eliminate all street flushing, sewer flushing, and hydrant flushing, except for emergencies. The City shall also eliminate washing city vehicles, fire flow tests and fire training, use of fountains, and lawn sprinkling on City property and ballfields. The City will also issue municipal infractions for violators.

City officials request that residents and businesses do their part to reduce water demand in the homes and workplaces during the emergency period.
