An Alta man was charged with illegal possession of a firearm following a traffic stop late last week in Storm Lake.
According to the Storm Lake Police Department, at approximately 7:15pm last Friday, an officer conducted the traffic stop on a vehicle at the intersection of Grand Avenue and West 4th Street for an equipment violation. Upon making contact with the driver, the officer detected an odor of marijuana emitting from the vehicle. Following a search, the driver identified as 28-year-old Taxavier Ford of Alta, was found to be in possession of a handgun on his person. Police found Ford to be prohibited from possessing firearms due to previous felony-level violation convictions.
Ford was taken into custody without incident. He was charged with Felon in Possession of a Firearm, a class D felony, and was booked into the Buena Vista County Jail on a five thousand dollar bond.
