City of Storm Lake Provides Storm Damage Update

The high winds overnight have created a lot of damage and knocked out power for the entire community. Here’s what you need to know.

* STAY HOME. Power lines and trees are down in dozens of locations, and crews will be trying to do their work.

  * City and Fire Department crews are currently assessing damages. They will be covering the entire community. Firefighters from several local communities have responded to help.

  * The latest estimate from Mid American Energy is that power to Storm Lake will be restored at approximately 8 p.m. There are several downed lines and broken poles, so this can change based on conditions.

  * Storm Lake residents who rely on powered medical devices –

If you need to recharge or power your medical devices, you can go to the main entrance at Buena Vista Regional Medical Center for assistance.

  * If your home has been heavily damaged and you need shelter, Storm Lake High School will be open. Come to the gym/auditorium door.

  * Red Cross is on standby and will be deployed in Storm Lake if conditions warrant.

  * Later today (Fri), the City will be announcing locations for dropoff of debris from storm damages.

  * If you need to make a report, you may do so by email to: stormdamage@stormlake.org. Please be aware that with the high volume of issues, email might not be answered right away.
