City of Storm Lake Audit Process

The City of Storm Lake will begin an annual audit process in August, to be conducted by Winther Stave & Co. certified accountants. The independent audit will examine finances for the past fiscal year (2024-25), which ended June 30.

Annual audits for city governments in Storm Lake’s population class are required under the Code of Iowa, to ensure financial health. Audits are conducted according to federal government standards as determined by the U.S. Comptroller General’s office.

Such audits provide a valuable service as an independent, objective assessment of how a City manages, uses and safeguards public resources. The auditors’ report assures that City financial statements are accurate and complete, and comply with all applicable laws, regulations, contracts and grant agreements.

When completed, results of the audit and auditor’s opinions will be presented in a report to the City Council and made available to the public when complete.
