The Buena Vista County Compensation Board has approved its annual recommendation on pay raises for elected officials.
Meeting yesterday at the courthouse in Storm Lake, the seven-member board unanimously backed a 3 percent across-the-board increase for the county attorney, auditor, recorder, treasurer, sheriff, and board of supervisors. The plan also includes stipends—$2,000 for the board chair, $500 for the vice chair, and $5,000 for the auditor serving as budget director—along with longevity bonuses.
Board members emphasized fairness while weighing inflation, caseloads, and comparisons with other counties.
The board of supervisors must act on the recommendation before certifying the county’s next budget in March. They may reduce or eliminate the suggested adjustments.
