An audit report has been released on Buena Vista County.
According to the report, BV County had local tax revenue of just over 41.9 million dollars for the fiscal year that ended June 30th of 2023. That included about 1.4 million dollars in tax credits from the state. BV County forwarded about 30.3 million of the local tax revenue to the townships, school districts, cities and other taxing bodies in Buena Vista County.
BV County retained a little more than 11.5 million dollars of the local tax revenue to finance county operations, down 4.1 percent from the prior year.
Expenses for county operations totaled just over 20 million dollars, a two-percent decrease from the prior year. Expenses went for roads and transportation, public safety and legal services, administration, non-program, and other functions.
Two findings were noted related to the receipt and expenditure of taxpayer funds. The findings addressed issues of lack of adequate segregation of duties, and to tax increment financing procedures. The county was provided with recommendations regarding the findings.
The audit was conducted by Winther, Stave & Co LLP. The audit report is available for review in the Buena Vista County Auditor’s Office, the Office of the State Auditor, and on the State Auditor’s website.
