Area Projects Among Recipients of New Healthcare-Related Grant

A couple of area projects are among 14 recipients of a new healthcare-related grant.

The Iowa Healthcare Credentialing Grant will support the healthcare industry’s workforce across the state, particularly in high-demand jobs. The grant will fund work-based learning programs that include an earn-and-learn component. The awards announced today (Wed) total nearly three million dollars.

The Sioux Valley Memorial Hospital Association in Cherokee is receiving nearly 175 thousand dollars for an expanded Registered Apprenticeship program to develop additional pathways in existing RA’s and new RA’s for laboratory technicians, diagnostic medical sonographers, and surgical technicians for high school, college students, adult students, and current employees of Cherokee Regional Medical Center interested in high-demand priority healthcare occupations. The project is designed to support at least 16 apprentices.

Stewart Memorial Community Hospital in Lake City is receiving over 131 thousand dollars for the Fast Track Pathway to Healthcare Program, which is designed to urgently address Iowa’s shortage of healthcare professionals by rapidly upskilling existing employees and accelerating program completion for essential positions. The funding will extend the program into the fields of nursing, radiology tech, and medical laboratory tech.

The Iowa Healthcare Credentialing Grant was announced by Governor Reynolds during her 2025 Condition of the State.
