An Ida County farm family will be presented with the Wergin Good Farm Neighbor Award tomorrow (Thur).
The Volkert family will receive the award at 11am Thursday at the Cobblestone Inn in Holstein. The award, which recognizes Iowa livestock farmers who take pride in caring for the environment and their livestock, and have demonstrated a commitment to their community. The award will be presented by Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Mike Naig.
The Volkert Brothers farm started in 1970. The farm has been owned and operated by Lane and the late Larry Volkert and their families. The farm received Century Farm recognition in 2006. It’s been in the family for 117 years. The Volkert family raises corn, soybeans, and hay, while also feeding cattle and hogs.
