Alta Debuts Hometown Days Oct. 4–5

Alta is gearing up for its first-ever Hometown Days celebration, set for next Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 4-5.

Mayor Kevin Walsh, who helped launch the event through a partnership with Alta Hometown Pride, says the two-day celebration was sparked by a desire to bring back community traditions that faded during the pandemic.

Saturday begins with a Kiwanis pancake and sausage breakfast at the community building. Throughout the morning, residents can visit with members of the library board, park board, and Friends of Alta Foundation to learn about local projects—including a new proposed library and service members memorial as well as downtown beautification efforts.

Afternoon activities include a disc golf tournament and downtown festivities. Walsh says attendees can expect food trucks, vendors selling items such as jewelry and baked goods, face painting, chalk art, more than 100 free pumpkins donated by a local business, and offerings for kids.

Alta resident Steven Smith will entertain with balloon art, and organizers are working to book live music and dance performances.

The day wraps up with a showing of the original Freaky Friday at the Roxy Theater, hosted by the library committee.

Sunday highlights the Alta Firemen’s Association, which will host a free-will donation meal and other activities.

Walsh says individuals interested in volunteering or participating as a vendor are encouraged to contact Alta City Clerk Lindsay Brown at 200-2105.

Alta Hometown Days is a community-wide effort, says Walsh, and he hopes it becomes a lasting tradition.
