Tornado Boys Cross Country Team–Silvia Kampbell State Bound

The Storm Lake Cross Country teams had a day to remember Wednesday in their 3A qualifying meet at Spencer. The boys team placed 2nd and qualified for the state meet for the first time since 1988 and Silvia Kampbell broke her own school record running 19:43 and placed 13th (top 15 qualify for the State meet).

The boys were paced by Joel Ramirez-Parra (now a four time state qualifier) who placed 2nd in 16:20, Jacob Mills was 13th in 17:06, Alex Ortega 16th in 17:16, Heath Kampbell placed 20th in 17:30, Alex Placencia was 21st in 17:30, John Schwint 28th in 17:45, and Andre Machado placed 68th in 19:25.

The Tornado girls team was 10th out of 13 teams with Kampbell leading the way. Maggie Dahlhauser was 32nd, Lily Backman 70th, Anaiz Martinez 71st, Jade Rodriguez 81st, Isabel Landgraf placed 84th, and Jennifer Leiva was 88th.

The 3A State Cross Country Meet takes place Friday, October 31st with the girls race at 2pm and the boys at 2:45pm.

The Storm Lake cross country teams are coached by Justin Mellmann and assistant coach Mike Brostad.
