Tornado Baseball Team Drops Season Opener

Despite being not having any hits in the game the Denison-Schleswig baseball team beat Storm Lake 1-0 in nine innings Wednesday night in Denison.

The Monarchs were able to plate an unearned run to spoil a great outing by Tornado starter Charlie Dvergsten. The senior right hander pitched the first eight innings giving up no hits and striking out 16 while walking one and hitting two batters. Trey Boettcher relieved Dvergsten to start the 9th and was saddled with the loss.

Storm Lake had six hits in the game with Boettcher and David Gonzales-Santos each getting two.

Storm Lake had the bases loaded with one out in both the 7th and 9th innings but could not score. The Tornadoes will play again Thursday at Emmetsburg with the JV game starting at 5pm. The varsity game will be broadcast on 92.9FM KKIA
